Corporate Environmental Issues

Corporate environmental issues are growing along with technology. As we progress as a society built around the know-everything-at-once mobile upgrades, corporations are taking on a lot more than they used to ten years ago. While soaring to new heights in technology, corporations will also have to take on new responsibilities, namely environmental ones. For every footprint they leave, they must make efforts, legally and ethically, to try and cover them up. Sustainability efforts are becoming much more essential, relevant to the changes that we are making, shifts we are pushing for. The closer we get to where we want to be as a society, the more changes we have to make as individuals in order to keep the environment from crumbling; not only that, there need to be attempts to improve the already damaged parts of the environment.

Corporate responsibility and sustainable change are terms that get thrown around a lot these days. So much has been done by corporations including buy-back programs, take-back centers, eco-friendly facilities and discount incentives, but so much is left to be resolved until not only their footprints have vanished, but the effects on the environment move in a positive direction. Ocean life, air and chemical pollution and most importantly, electronic waste, are all areas that need a constant, watchful eye. The idea is not to only avoid creating problems in these areas, but to help them improve from where they are now.

Buy-back programs and take-back centers, although legally required, are perfect examples of corporate responsibility and sustainable change. As some of the larger companies continue to grow with their sustainability efforts, there is a goal to get smaller businesses to fill in their environmentally harmful gaps and follow suit of the corporate world in terms of sustainability. Corporations have begun to focus their research and development teams on creating products that will not abuse the environment as much, but rather preserve it. Businesses like Apple are using their resources and strong development teams to create new technology using eco-friendly parts and chips that are not only much more sustainable, but they are also lighter in weight and longer lasting in battery life.

Companies are starting to see increase in sales, such as the iPad2, due to the lightness and durability of their new products. Consumers who applaud their eco-friendly efforts are more likely to purchase products that are not only better quality, but also environmentally safer. In that way, people as well as businesses are both doing their roles to work towards a more sustainable way of living. The better these companies do with their sustainable efforts, the more revenue and thus, more jobs that will be created. It behooves everybody to jump on-board with sustainable efforts, and yet many corporations, nearly 45%, remain reluctant to make the necessary changes.

Corporate responsibility and sustainable change are two very strong factors of corporate environmental issues, and the measure of strong companies and brand names may very well rely on the actions companies do or do not take in the near future.
